Okay, peeps - here's the second part of the origin of IRON MAN from TALES OF SUSPENSE #39. You have to hand it to STAN LEE's brother, LARRY LIEBER - he sure could deliver a well-crafted script. 'Twas he who came up with names like ANTHONY STARK, HENRY PYM, DON BLAKE, URU and probably a whole host of others. Let's hear it for Larrupin' Larry Lieber - he's one of the good ones.

i bought my kids one each in grey and gold 6 inch figures of the original costume,detachable mask.
every time i put them on my display in my loft,they go missing ...kids must like them also.
Its my favourite iron man cover and armour.
Its Don Heck,but is it not a Kirby cover?
There was a villain called Midas in the Grant Morrisson Marvel boy series who wore a gold armour totally based on this design ,which added to the story for me.
Believe it or not, I had three each of those figures, but I foolishly gave one set of two away. One of my remaining two sets is hanging on the wall across from me as I type this - the remaining set hasn't been opened. (I refer to them as sets, but the figures were sold individually.)
Yes, the cover is by Kirby, but I suspect it may have been inked by Heck. Kirby tended to draw Iron Man with no neck or chin, the helmet attaching straight onto the body. Heck, when he drew the strip himself, drew the helmet with a chin (and neck) and, when inking Kirby, altered JK's 'shell-shaped' head at the inking stage to accommodate his own version.
Never saw the GM Marvel Boy, but there was a villain called Midas in later Iron Man stories, but without armour. I'd imagine they're different people.
Is it just me or has my appreciation of Don Heck just increased over the years? (although I have to admit the original Iron Mn armour. to me at least was just awful) Mr Heck did some really awful work but some great stuff that's is among my very favourite art in comics McScotty
I always felt that Don Heck's later work in the '70s & '80s had loosened up to such an extent that I wasn't a great fan of it. However, his '60s stuff is really top-notch in my opinion. Some of his Iron Man and Avengers artwork is pure class. Thanks for commenting.
its took about forty years for me to warm to mr heck,I was always disapointed to see his work.He has his moments.
Frank Robbins as well,annoyed me ,sloppy sloppy,and now,I think its classical and alive.
I always quite liked Frank Robbins' stuff - but it depended on what he was drawing.
